About Us

Who are we?

We are the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE) and our organization includes three separate entities:

  • The Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education
  • The Utah Educational Savings Plan
  • The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority

The Utah System of Education consists of the eight public institutions of higher education in the state:

  • The University of Utah
  • Utah State University
  • Weber State University
  • Southern Utah University
  • Snow College
  • Dixie State College
  • Utah Valley University
  • Salt Lake Community College

 

The Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education

This office oversees a talented group of professionals who are committed to improving higher education in Utah.

The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority

The Utah Higher Education Assistance Authority (UHEAA) administers Utah’s student financial aid programs. UHEAA’s mission includes comprehensive outreach and information to assist citizens in planning for and financing postsecondary education, and special programs to keep student loans affordable and help borrowers avoid delinquencies and defaults. UHEAA’s student loan default rate is among the very lowest nationally.

Utah Educational Savings Plan (UESP)

A nonprofit trust fund, UESP is the official and only 529 plan established and sponsored by the State of Utah.   529 plans are savings tools with tax advantages designed to encourage people to begin to save for future educational costs. UESP is consistently ranked one of the best 529 plans in the United States.  Utah residents receive tax benefits on their State taxes for participating.  Payroll deduction from your employment with USHE is available if you wish to set up a 529 plan with UESP.
